A Story of Steel: Before and After Continuous Casting in Brescia

In 1965, Ori Martin experimented with continuous casting in its Brescia plant. It was the first plant in Italy after the one developed by Danieli for Riva in 1964. The new system spread quickly: Stefana FratelliFenotti & CominiIlfoIroLealiValsabbia, in short, the new technology made a significant increase in steel production possible. Sixty years after a crucial innovation, the objective of the study day is to place this technical turning point within the long history of a territorial vocation, thereby better highlighting the discontinuity marked by electric steelmaking. Mini steel mills have indeed profoundly shaped the industrial and social landscape of Brescia in the second half of the twentieth century, becoming in many ways its symbol. The meeting also aims to provide an outlook on the prospects of a supply chain that will continue to remain central in contemporary society.

The initiative will take place on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM at the "Lodovico Giordani" Iron Museum in San Bartolomeo (via del Manestro n.107 in Brescia).

The day's program is attached.
