On Friday, August 1, we will discover a story of innovation with strong Italian characteristics: before Sega and Nintendo, before Commodore and Atari, various Italian companies already produced electronic devices to play at home with the television. This is their forgotten story. The guide will be Andrea Contato, a fiction and non-fiction writer, researcher, and video game enthusiast.
"It is common belief that video games and home consoles were born in the United States, then exploded thanks to the Japanese industry, and that European countries were only consumers of video games. But is that really so? At the beginning of the industry's adventure, Europe was fertile ground for the first innovative productions. Italy, in particular, thanks to affordable labor and good skills in assembling electrical circuits, was at the forefront of producing the first consoles. Seleco, Reel, Polistil, Cabel Electronic, Breton, Cieffe, and Silcom are just some of the Italian manufacturers of consoles and electronic devices for entertainment."
The meeting, organized in collaboration with the Retrocampus Association, will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 8:30 PM at MUSIL - Valle Camonica Hydroelectric Energy Museum (in via Roma 48 in Cedegolo).
